Our client list is growing! In 2009 we sold fresh hops to Ithaca Beer Company, Harpoon Brewery and Victory Brewing Company.
Read about our contribution to the NY hops industry the Summer 2008 edition of Edible Finger Lakes.
The
deep, loamy soil left by the glaciers provides an excellent
place to raise specialty crops including hops, one of
the more unique crops grown on our farm.
We
currently have 15 varieties in our hop yard including: Cascade,
Mt. Hood
and Willamette.
Our hops provide a locally grown ingredient for
microbreweries
in the Northeastern United States. Ithaca
Beer Company released a Double
IPA in February 2004 made entirely with hops grown on
our farm, the first time in at least
50
years that a beer has been brewed with all NY hops.
Several
Northeast breweries have used fresh hops from us since 2006
to create "harvest" brews. In
2007 we expanded our yard and planted Chinook,
Galena and Glacier.
As a member of the Northeast
Hop Alliance, we are active in bringing back this once widely practiced
and important industry to upstate New York. |
